Join the Coalition Against Death Alley this Wednesday, June 10th, in Baton Rouge to protest #Louisiana #HB197
WHAT: HB197 Criminalizes protests near “critical infrastructure”. Critical infrastructure can be defined as city streets, levees, bridges, highways, underpasses, literally anywhere. This bill would silence free speech by imposing harsh prison sentences (3 to 15 years and a fine up to $5,000) for merely being present at a so-called "critical infrastructure" facility.
If this bill were to become law, it could criminalize people for protesting environmental injustices and racism – including the residents of Louisiana's so-called "Cancer Alley" who have been protesting the deadly and devastating impact of corporate polluters.
The people of Louisiana have a fundamental right to speak and assemble freely, but HB 197 threatens that right.
WHERE: North 4th St. at Spanish Town Road, the south side of Capitol Park in front of the state capitol. WHEN: WEDNESDAY, JUNE 10, 10AM
