Dialogues on creating liberating education sites for Black children in and outside of public schools
About this Event
2020 has highlighted the urgent need for different thinking, dialogue and action around what Black communities need to survive the United States. Six decades of education rhetoric, policy and practice centered in Black students being “deficient”, “behind” and in “gaps” has stunted our imagination and actions for what is possible for Black children and their education.
Louisiana has the second highest percentage of Black students in the nation. We need to get this right.
Join OPEN and Citizen SHE United on Juneteenth (Friday, June 19th) for a different conversation about education centered in the excellence of Black children- their gifts, resources and capabilities. We will spend the day with students, policymakers, researchers, educators, activists, organizers, and culture bearers focusing on how to create just, equitable school systems and liberating learning sites focused on what’s best in Black children.
